Abstract:

Zkratka Lesby, Gayové, Bisexuální, Transgender a Queer (LGBTQ) popisuje sexuální orientaci, genderovou identitu nebo projev osoby. Většina západních zemí legalizovala manželství a aktivity v rámci komunity LGBTQ. Na druhé straně většina zemí v Africe, Asii a na Středním východě buď tuto problematiku kriminalizuje, nebo projevuje silný odpor vůči právům komunity LGBTQ. Celosvětově má 70 zemí zákony, které kriminalizují homosexualitu, a z tohoto počtu jich 32 najdeme v Africe. V mnoha ghanských komunitách jsou sporadické případy fyzického násilí, diskriminace, vydírání a psychického zneužívání osob, které se identifikují jako LGBTQ. Existují tedy důkazy, že postoje a vnímání, které lidé projevují vůči LGBTQ, jsou utvářeny společností, ve které vyrůstali, a také náboženstvím či vírou, která je považována za moderační faktor ve vztahu k názorům a vnímání spojeným s těmito sociálními konstrukty. Cíl: Výzkum postojů, kulturních a náboženských faktorů Ghaňanů vůči komunitě LGBTQ v oblasti města La-Nkwantanang Madina. Metoda: Studie využívá analytický kros-sekční design s použitím kvantitativních výzkumných metod v oblasti města La-Nkwantanang Madina v regionu větší Accra v Ghaně. Studie využívá techniky příležitostného výběru a do výzkumu bylo zahrnuto 140 respondentů z této komunity. Participanti vyplňovali dotazník složený z uzavřených otázek na online platformě Kobo Toolbox. Sbíraná data byla importována do statistického softwaru Stata verze 16 pro následnou statistickou analýzu. Výsledky: Všech 140 rozeslaných dotazníků bylo zodpovězeno, což představuje míru návratnosti 100%. Výsledky ukázaly, že většina respondentů byli ženy (52,14 %) a zbývající byli muži (47,86 %). Průměrný věk respondentů byl 32,7 let s standardní odchylkou 8,8. Většina respondentů (55,71 %) uvedla, že považuje LGBTQ za velký hřích, 5 % tvrdí, že je to nelegální, 6,43 % říká, že je to pouhá sexuální perverse, zatímco 20 % tvrdí, že lidé mají právo být s kýmkoli si přejí. Přibližně 75 % respondentů uvedlo, že by LGBTQ mělo být nezákonné, 16,43 % bylo nerozhodnuto a 7,86 % chtělo legalizaci LGBTQ. Zjistilo se, že přibližně 86 % respondentů mělo negativní postoje vůči LGBTQ, zatímco 14 % respondentů projevilo pozitivní postoje vůči lidem z LGBTQ komunity. Výsledky ukázaly, že negativní postoje vůči sexuální a genderové orientaci byly spojeny s pohlavím, věkem nad 46 let, základním vzděláním, silnou vírou a neznalostí nikoho z LGBTQ komunity. Závěr: Zdá se, že je vysoká úroveň negativních postojů a vnímání většiny ghanské populace vůči LGBTQ, přičemž náboženství a kultura jsou hlavním faktorem ovlivňujícím vnímání a rozhodnutí týkající se práv a svobody LGBTQ.

Abstract:

Background: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) describes sexual orientation or gender identity or expression of a person. Most Western countries have legalized marriage and activities among the LGBTQ community. Whereas most countries in Africa, Asia and Middle East have either illegalize it or have strong public aversion towards the rights of LGBTQ community. Globally, 70 countries have laws that criminalize homosexuality, out of this number 32 are found in Africa. There are sporadic incidence of physical violence, discrimination, extortion and psychological abuse of people that identify as LGBTQ in many communities in Ghana. There is hence the evidence that the attitudes and perceptions that people exhibit towards LGBTQ are shaped by the society they grew up in as well as religion or faith which is seen as a moderating factor in the kind of beliefs and perceptions that will be attached to social constructs. Objective: To examine the attitude, cultural and religious factors of Ghanaians towards LGBTQ community in the La-Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Area. Method: The study employed an analytic cross-sectional study design using quantitative research methods in the La-Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Area of the Greater Accra region of Ghana. The study used a convenience sampling techniques in recruiting 140 participants from the community. A close ended questionnaire using the Kobo Toolbox online platform was administered to all person that were sampled and eligible through the questionnaire. The data collected was imported into Stata statistical software version 16 for the statistical analysis. Results: All 140 responses were received giving a response rate of 100%. The results showed that majority of the respondents were females (52.14%) with the remaining being males (47.86%). The mean age was 32.7 years with a standard deviation of 8.8. The majority of respondents (55.71%) claimed LGBTQ to be a terrible sin, 5% claim it is illegal, 6.43% said it is merely a sexual perversion while 20% assert that people have the right to be with whoever they wish. About 75% or respondents said LGBTQ should be illegalized,16.43% were undecided and 7.86% want LGBTQ legalized. About 86% of respondents were found to have negative attitudes towards LGBTQ while 14% of the respondents showed to have positive attitudes towards LGBTQ people. The findings showed that males, persons 46years and older, primary education, strong religiosity and not knowing any LGBTQ person were all associated with negative attitudes towards sexual and gender orientation. Conclusion: There appears to be a high level of negative attitudes and perceptions towards LGBTQ among majority of the Ghanaian populace with religion and culture being the main factor influencing the perception and decisions relating to rights and freedom of LGBTQ.
