DAQ systems for particle physics experiments

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá architekturou a praktickým návrhem systému sběru dat pro experimenty na poli částicové fyziky. Tyto experimenty mají za cíl zkoumat podstatu částic tvořící hmotu a radiaci. V práci jsou shrnuty základní topologie DAQ a trigger systémů pro experimenty v částicové fyzice. Dále je obsahem práce návrh jednokanálového DAQ řetězce, jehož hlavním úkolem je demonstrace systémů, které jsou pro částicovou fyziku využívány. Navržený systém je rozdělen na čtyři části, které jsou realizovány oddělenými deskami plošných spojů. Systém je řešený modulárně z důvodu názornosti a možnosti budoucího rozšíření. Na navrženém systému je proveden praktický test a je provedeno zhodnocení dosažených parametrů a funkcí.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with architecture and practical design of DAQ systems in particle physics experiments. These experiments focus on nature of particles that constitute matter and radiation. This thesis summarizes the basic topologies of DAQ and trigger systems for experiments in particle physics. Furthermore, the design of single channel of DAQ chain is described. Its main task is demonstration of the DAQ system used for particle physics. The designed system is dividedinto four main parts in a form of individual PCBs. For a better understanding of the system operation and possible extension a modular concept is used. Practical test was carried out in order to evaluate the achieved parameters and functions.
