Classification of components obtained from functional magnetic resonance imaging data using independent component analysis

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zapadá do oblasti analýzy a klasifikace dat pořízených z funkční magnetické rezonance. Konkrétně se zabývá využitím analýzy nezávislých komponent a jejich klasifikací z hlediska jejich další využitelnosti pro pokročilé, mnohorozměrné analýzy dat, které jsou neurozobrazovací komunitou aplikovány stále častěji. V praktické části práce jsou použity vybrané klasifikační algoritmy pro rozpoznávání nezávislých komponent tak, aby byly komponenty zařazeny do dvou tříd, a to na komponenty relevantní k experimentu a na komponenty arteficiální. Automatická klasifikace je prováděna pomocí dvou metod, a to pomocí algoritmu k nejbližších sousedů a algoritmu podpůrných vektorů. Využívá se přitom popisu každé komponenty pomocí několika vybraných příznakových proměnných, jejichž hodnoty jsou vypočteny z hodnot distribuční funkce prostorové mapy, z prostorového uspořádání významných voxelů v prostorové mapě, z časových průběhů komponent a jejich výkonových frekvenčních spekter. Aplikovaný postup je otestován na simulovaných i na reálných datech z funkční magnetické rezonance.

Abstract:

The scope of this thesis is analysis and classification of data obtained from functional magnetic resonance imaging. Particularly, it deals with independent component analysis and their classification in terms of their usability for advanced multivariate data analysis, which has been increasingly applied by neuroimaging community recently. In the practical part of the thesis, a study is presented with the use of two selected classification algorithms for recognition of the independent components, so that the components are classified into two classes: either components relevant to the paradigm, or artificial components. Two classifiers are used for the automatic classification: the k-nearest neighbors and the support vectors machines. They are used on the components described with features extracted from the distribution function of the spatial maps, from the spatial configuration of significant voxels in the spatial map, from the time courses of the components and from their power frequency spectra. The applied procedure is tested on simulated data as well as on real data from functional magnetic resonance imaging.
