Abstract:

Předkládaná práce, Plačící ženy u hrobu a raně křesťanský svět, se zabývá křesťanskými objekty z třetího až šestého století, na kterých je dochováno ikonografické téma Ženy u hrobu (Ježíše Krista). Značnou oblibu tohoto tématu dokazuje čtyřicet dochovaných exemplářů s jeho zobrazením. Podle dosavadního stavu bádání ikonografie Žen u hrobu reprezentovala vzkříšení Krista. Práce si klade za cíl prověřit platnost tohoto tvrzení na všech typech objektů, na kterých se nalézá: v baptisteriích, na dveřích a v lodích chrámů, na diptyších, na relikviářích a pyxidách, v manuskriptech a na sarkofázích. Z tohoto důvodu se snaží vrátit objekty zpět do kulturně historického prostředí pozdně antického – raně křesťanského světa. V závěru se práce zamýšlí nad otázkou, proč asi od poloviny pátého století až do konce šestého století není dochovaný žádný další exemplář zhotovený v Západořímské říši i přes to, že ve Východořímské říši bylo v tomto období téma Žen u hrobu stále velmi oblíbené. Dochází k závěru, že to mohlo být v důsledku změn v postavení žen v raně křesťanské církvi.

Abstract:

This thesis – Women at the Tomb and Early Christian World – is focused on early Christian objects from the third century A.D. to the sixth century A.D. in which the iconographic theme Women at the Tomb (of Jesus Christ) is preserved. The popularity of this theme is demonstrated by forty preserved specimen. According to the present state of the research, the iconography Women at the Tomb represented the Christ resurrection. The aim of this thesis was to check the validity of the statement using all types of subjects on which it was found: in baptisteries, on carved doors, in basilicas, on diptychs, reliquaries and pyxes, in manuscripts, and on sarcophagi. Therefore this thesis tried to project the studied objects into the cultural and historical background of Late antiquity – Early Christian world. The conclusion of this thesis is spent meditating upon the question of why no exemplars, from approximately the mid-fifth century A.D. up until the end of the sixth century A.D., were preserved in the West, despite the fact the iconography Women at the Tomb was still very popular in the East during the same era. The conclusion is that it could be the consequence of the change of the status of women in the early Christian churches.
