Céline Dion The French-Canadian singer

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor's thesis is the life and work of the French-Canadian singer Céline Dion. The thesis is divided into a theoretical - descriptive part and a practical - analytical part. The theoretical part describes the singer's career and reflects on her work in English and especially in French, all in close connection with her personal life. It emphasizes important stages in the singer's life, her family and professional relationships and her achievements from childhood to the present. The practical part is focused on the analysis of the Quebec environment in French-sung lyrics and in the singer's spoken civilian speech. A text, where the singer expresses herself about her emotional relationship to French is selected for the analysis and her pronunciation is analyzed and partially transcribed. Canadian French is pronounced more in the singer's spoken civil language than in her repertoire. Furthermore, the analysis focuses on the difference between standard European French and Canadian French, which is sometimes reflected in the singer's French songs. English expressions that are typical of Quebec French also appear in the lyrics.

Tématem této bakalářské práce je život a tvorba francouzsko-kanadské zpěvačky Céline Dion. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou - popisnou a část praktickou - analytickou. Teoretická část popisuje kariéru zpěvačky a reflektuje její tvorbu v angličtině a zejména ve francouzštině, to vše v úzkém spojení s jejím osobním životem. Zdůrazňuje důležité etapy v životě zpěvačky, její rodinné a profesionální vztahy a její úspěchy od dětství až po současnost. Praktická část je zaměřena na analýzu quebeckého prostředí ve francouzsky zpívaných textech a v mluveném civilním projevu zpěvačky. Pro analýzu je vybrán text, kde se zpěvačka vyjadřuje o svém citovém vztahu ke francouzštině a je zde analyzována a částečně transkribována její výslovnost. Kanadská francouzština je výraznější v mluvené civilní řeči zpěvačky než v jejím repertoáru. Dále je analýza zaměřena na rozdíl mezi standardní evropskou francouzštinou a kanadskou francouzštinou, který se někdy projevuje ve zpěvaččiných francouzsky zpívaných písních. V textech se objevují i anglické výrazy, které jsou typické pro quebeckou francouzštinu.
