Life with Quadriplegia (case study)

Abstract:

Kvadruplegie je závažný stav, kdy dochází k částečnému nebo úplnému ochrnutí všech čtyř končetin a trupu. Tento stav bývá často následkem postižení míchy, vyžaduje nepřetržitou péči a pacient je zcela závislý na dopomoci druhých. Práce je zaměřena na život s tímto postižením a péči o jeho bio-psycho-sociální potřeby. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část charakterizuje tento stav, diagnostiku a možnosti léčby a popisuje specifika ošetřovatelské péče. V praktické části je metodou kazuistiky zachycen život mladého muže s kvadruplegií, který je členěn do tří období - období akutní péče, období subakutní a následné institucionální péče a období domácí péče. Cílem praktické části je popsat subjektivní prožívání těchto období postiženým a jeho rodinou a poukázat na to, jak nemoc ovlivňuje jejich život. Informace byly čerpány z lékařských dokumentací a nestandardizovaným rozhovorem s postiženým a rodinnými příslušníky. Práce má informovat veřejnost o tomto postižení a poskytnout možnost seznámit se s životem člověka s kvadruplegií.

Abstract:

Quadriplegia is a serious disease which causes partial or total paralysis of all four human extremities and body. This is often a result of a damage to the spinal cord. This infliction needs permanent care and the patient is completely dependent on the help of the others. The thesis is focused on the life and disability of a man who needs specific bio-psycho-social nursing care. The thesis is divided into 2 parts ? theoretical and practical. Theoretical part characterizes this situation, methods of diagnosis and treatment options and describes specifics of nursing care. In the practical part is used the case study to describe three periods in the life of a young man with quadriplegia - period of acute care, sub-acute care and institutional care and a period of home care. Aim of the practical part is to describe experiences of the disabled man during the stage of the dissease and his family and the impact of the disease on their everyday life. Information was drown from medical documentation and from unstandardized dialog with this disabled man. Via this this work I would like to inform the public about this handicap and to give the opportunity to learn more about the life of this handicapped man.
