Czech Literature in Polish Translations

Abstract:

Niniejsza praca dyplomowa odnosi się do dorobku wydawniczego i translatorskiego literatury czeskiej na język polski, polskiej czechofilii oraz popularyzacji tej właśnie literatury wśród polskich czytelników. Skupia się na genezie, rozwoju oraz odbiorze literatury czeskiej w Polsce na przestrzeni wieków, jak również obejmuje ona teoretyczne wprowadzenie do historii przekładu oraz przedmiotu translatologii, a na podstawie prac przede wszystkim polskich i czeskich pisarzy, tłumaczy, teoretyków przekładu oraz literaturoznawców stara się opisać charakter procesu tłumaczenia i jego końcowego produktu, którym jest przekład. Wspomina też o wydawnictwach i tłumaczach, od których czeska produkcja literarna w Polsce zależy. Praca skupia także bardzo obszerny chronologicznie ułożony wybór dzieł zawierający informacje dotyczące najstarszych przekładów, procesu tłumaczenia i jego rozwoju w poszczególnych epokach itd.

Abstract:

This master´s thesis refers to the publishing and translating output of Czech literature into Polish language, Polish Czechophilia and the popularisation of this particular literature among Polish readers. It also focuses on the origins, development and reception of Czech literature in Poland over the centuries, and includes a theoretical introduction to the subject of translation history and also translatology, based primarily on the works of Polish and Czech writers, translators, translation theorist and literary scholars, which describe the nature of the translation process and its final product - translation. It also mentions the publishing houses and translators upon whom Czech literary production in Poland depends. The work also brings together a very comprehensive chronologically arranged selection of works, which contains informations on the oldest translations, the process of translation and its development throughout the different eras etc.
