Musical Form and Phrase Structure in Mozart´s Flute Concertos

Abstract:

Mozart´s flute concertos are widely known, frequently performed and discussed in a number of theses. However, the existing literature does not offer a thorough analysis of these concertos in terms of musical form and phrase structure. This bachelor thesis expands the existing knowledge through a comprehensive analysis of the first movements of these concertos from the point of view a form, harmony and phrase structure. It offers insights that are relevant for theorists and performers alike. This thesis draws on relevant foreign literature, which is not widely known in Slovak and Czech discourse. The discussion of Anglophone literature not only provides a solid theoretical basis for the analyses of Mozart's flute concertos, but also offers the opportunity to compare the approaches of Slovak and Czech music theorists on the one hand, and their American counterparts on the other.

Abstract:

Téma Mozartových flautových koncertov je široko známa a je predmetom mnohých diplomových prác. Existujúca literatúra však neponúka dôkladnú analýzu týchto koncertov z pohľadu hudobnej formy a frázovej štruktúry. Táto bakalárska práca rozširuje existujúce poznatky o komplexnú analýzu prvých častí týchto koncertov z hľadiska formálnej, harmonickej a frázovej štruktúry a prináša znalosti, ktoré sú relevantné pre teoretikov aj umelcov. Táto práca čerpá z relevantnej zahraničnej literatúry, ktorá nie je v slovenskom a českom prostredí dostatočne náma. Diskusia o anglofónnej literatúre zahŕňa nielen solídny teoretický základ pre analýzy Mozartových flautových koncertov, ale ponúka aj možnosť porovnať prístupy slovenských a českých hudobných teoretikov na jednej strane a ich amerických kolegov na strane druhej.
