Comparison of values and attitudes in the field of parenting in the Czech Republic and the UK (Compared EVS 1999 a 2008)

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je srovnat postoje v oblasti rodičovství u dvou vývojově rozdílných zemí a to postoje České republiky, jakožto zástupce postkomunistických zemí, a postoje Velké Británie, jakožto klasického reprezentanta vyspělých západních zemí. První část práce uvádí obě země do širšího kontextu, nastiňuje demografickou situaci z hlediska plodnosti a poskytuje základní teoretické přístupy, na kterých lze stavět při interpretaci empirických dat. Práce vychází z teorie druhé demografické tranzice, individualizace, modernizace, kulturní změny, posunu hodnot, a dalších. Druhá, empirická část práce, se zabývá konkrétním číselným srovnáním skrze mezinárodní komparativní šetření EVS 1999 a 2008. Využita je kvantitativní výzkumná strategie, sekundární analýza dat. Práce mapuje rozdíly v hodnotových postojích v oblasti rodičovství u dvou vývojově rozdílných zemí, které jsou, dle zjištění přítomny.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to compare the attitudes towards parenting of two developmentally different countries, the Czech republic, as a representative of the post-communist countries and the United Kingdom, as a representative of classical Western industrialized countries. The first part of this thesis puts these two countries into broader context, outlines the demographic situation in terms of fertility and provides the basic theoretical approaches upon which we can build the interpretation of empirical data. The thesis is based on theory of the second demographic transition, individualization, modernization, cultural change, values shift, and other. Secondly, empirical part of the thesis, deals with a concrete numerical comparison through international comparative survey EVS 1999 and 2008, using a quantitative research strategy, secondary data analysis. The text demonstrates the differences in the values of parenting attitudes between two developmentally different countries and these differences are, according to its findings, present.
