Compositional variations in limestones at the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá kompoziční analýzou vzorků vápenců ze dvou profilů z hraničního intervalu mezi devonem a karbonem, který je spojován s globální hangenberskou krizí. Jedná se o profil Lesní lom, který se nachází v moravsko-slezské pánvi a profil Gendron-Celles, který patří do namursko-dinantské pánve. U profilu Gendron-Celles byly vzorky odebrány ze souvrství Comblain-au-Pont a Hastière a u profilu Lesní lom byly vzorky odebrány z křtinských a hádsko-říčských vápenců líšeňského souvrství. Tyto profily byly porovnány na základě kvantitativní analýzy stavebních komponent těchto vápenců. Byla použita metoda sčítání bodů („point-counting“) v programu JMicroVision a následovala analýza výsledků statistickými metodami v programu Statistica. Použita byla shluková analýza a analýza hlavních komponent. V programu JMicroVision byly také měřeny velikosti zrn. Vzorky byly popsány a zařazeny do skupin podle Dunhamovy klasifikace. Byly určeny mikrofacie obou profilů a byla provedena interpretace a porovnání odlišných sedimentačních prostředí. Bylo zjištěno, že vzorky z Gendron-Celles odpovídají ve většině případů podle Dunhamovy klasifikace karbonátovým horninám typu packstone a grainstone. U Lesního lomu převažují horniny typu packstone. Podle výsledků zrnitostní analýzy odpovídají vzorky z obou profilů karbonátům typu kalcisiltit až kalciarenit. U obou profilů se velmi hojně vyskytují ostnokožci. U Lesního lomu dochází k mixování alochemů, které jsou typičtější pro mělčí prostředí s alochemy, které jsou typičtější pro hlubší části, což odpovídá vzniku sedimentů turbiditními proudy. V profilu Gendron-Celles se vyskytovaly alochemy typické pro karbonátové rampy.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the composition analysis of limestone specimens removed from two profiles of a boundary interval between the Devonian and the Carboniferous related to the global Hangenberg Crisis. The Lesní Lom section is situated in the Moravian-Silesian Basin and the Gendron-Celles section belongs to the Namur-Dinant Basin. In the Gendron-Celles section, the samples were collected from the Comblain-au-Pont and Hastiére formations and in the Lesní Lom section, the samples were collected from the Křtiny and Hády-Říčka limestones of the Líšeň Formation. Both sections were compared on the basis of quantitative analysis of limestone components. The point-counting method was applied (software JMicroVision) and followed by statistical analysis in software Statistica. The cluster analysis and the main components analysis were applied. In the software JMicroVision, the grain size was also measured. The thin-sections were described and classified into groups according to Dunham classification. The microfacies of both profiles were determined and the interpretation and comparison of various depositional environments were compared. It was found out that the samples from Gendron-Celles according to Dunham classification mostly corresponded to the packstone and grainstone. In Lesní Lom, packstone prevails. According to the grain-size analysis, the samples of both sections correspond to calcisiltite up to calciarenite. In both sections, echinoderms are abundant. In Lesní Lom, mixing of allochems typical of mostly shallow environment with allochems more typical of deeper parts occurred, which is indicative of the origin of sediments due to the turbidity currents. In the Gendron-Celles profile, allochems typical of carbonate ramps were found.
