Family resiliency and family coping in the families of female teachers

Abstract:

Diplomová práce navazuje na nový směr v psychologii rodiny – na výzkumy týkající se zdravého rodinného fungování a rodinné resilience. Učitelské povolání může být zátěží, s níž se rodiny, v nichž je žena učitelka, musí vyrovnat. Tento výzkum vychází ze systémového a vývojového přístupu k rodině, je zaměřen na silné stránky a zdroje rodin. Výzkum byl realizován v terénních podmínkách. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 12 rodin, v nichž byla žena učitelka na ZŠ nebo SŠ, manželství trvalo minimálně 10 let a rodina měla alespoň 2 děti. Výzkum kombinuje kvalitativní a kvantitativní metodologii. Výsledky práce obsahují podrobnou kasuistickou studii těchto 12 rodin i výsledky týkající se celého výzkumného souboru. Byl zmapován vliv učitelského povolání na rodinu. Ve výzkumu byly použity následující výzkumné metody: polostrukturovaný rozhovor, Škála rodinného prostředí, Family Hardiness Index, Test manželského přizpůsobení Locke-Williamson, návštěva v rodině.

Abstract:

This thesis is dedicated to an actual topic in the field of family psychology – healthy family functioning and family resiliency researches. The teaching profession can be the significant demand that the families of female teachers have to cope with. The theoretical background of this thesis are the life-cycle and the systemic approach, the thesis is focused on the strengths of the families (thus using strength-based approach to families). The research was organized in a natural environment. The exploratory group consisted of 12 families where the woman was a teacher at a primary school or high school, the marriage has been lasting for more than 10 years and there were at least 2 children in the family. In the research, qualitative and quantitative methodology were combined. Conclusions contain detailed descriptions of functioning of every family and also conclusions concerning the whole exploratory group. The teaching profession’s influence on the family life was explored and described. Following exploratory methods were used in the research: semistructured interview, Family Environment Scale, Family Hardiness Index, Test of Marital Adjustment Locke-Williamson, a visit of the family.
