Risk identification and diversification in the loan management

Abstract:

The dissertation is mainly related to the bank risks undergoing by the commercial bank institutions in the regard of supplying various sorts of loans. The first part of the dissertation is devoted to the general definition of the risk, to risk analyses and also to setting up the main goals of the risk management. In the second part the specific bank risks are being analysed while the credit risk is being discussed in more details as it is considered to be the most important one. Other sorts of risk are discussed only marginally. The satisfactory risk identification and management is crucial to the bank institution and improper risk management can have very negative impact and lead even to the bank bankruptcy. Therefore the mortgage crises is discussed in the third part of the dissertation, where the crises origin including the wrong credit risk identification an insufficient management is explained. Part four describes how the bank assigns the credit risk measure using the specific example the mortgage case administration. The risk measure in this case is projected to the risk fee while comparing the calculations according Basel I and Basel II. The final part of the work is dealing with the overall evaluation of the risk management sufficiency and with the description of the possible solutions in the case of the "issuable" loans with the respect to the current economy crises. The process of the bank risks identification, diversification and management is very complicated and difficult. The goal of our dissertation is at least partially describe means by which commercial bank institutions evaluate and minimize the risk measure in the process of the loan management.

Abstract:

V diplomovej práci sa venujeme predovšetkým problematike bankových rizík, ktoré komerčné banky podstupujú práve v súvislosti s poskytovaním rôznych druhov úverov. Prvá časť práce je zameraná na všeobecné teoretické vymedzenie pojmu rizika, na stanovenie analýzy rizík a taktiež určenie hlavných cieľov riadenia rizika. V druhej časti analyzujeme konkrétne bankové riziká, pričom najväčšiu váhu prikladáme, vzhľadom na jeho dôležitosť, kreditnému (úverovému) riziku, ostatné druhy rizík popisujeme len okrajovo. Keďže dostatočná identifikácia a riadenie rizík je pre banku veľmi dôležitá a nesprávne riadenie môže mať veľmi negatívny dopad, resp. spôsobiť až prípadný krach banky, v tretej časti sa venujeme hypotekárnej kríze, vysvetľujeme príčiny jej vzniku, medzi ktoré patrí aj chybná identifikácia, resp. nedostatočné riadenie kreditného rizika. V štvrtej časti sme sa na konkrétnom príklade snažili popísať, akým spôsobom banka stanovuje mieru kreditného rizika pri poskytnutí hypotekárneho úveru – miera rizika je v našom prípade premietnutá do výšky rizikovej prirážky, pričom porovnávame prepočet podľa Basel I s Baselom II. Záver práce je orientovaný na celkové zhodnotenie dostatočnosti riadenia rizík a opis možných návrhov riešení v prípade vzniku tzv. „problémových“ úverov najmä v súvislosti so súčasnou ekonomickou krízou. Proces identifikácie, diverzifikácie a riadenia bankových rizík je veľmi zložitý a náročný proces, cieľom našej práce je však aspoň čiastočne priblížiť spôsoby, akým komerčné banky stanovujú a eliminujú mieru rizika pri poskytovaní úverov.
