Monitoring of the concentration of manganese and zinc in birch leaves in the Beskydy region

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na obsah manganu a zinku v listech břízy bělokoré, které jsou důsledkem emisí z třineckého průmyslu. Práce zahrnuje vybrané lokality v oblasti Beskyd, na kterých probíhalo vzorkování v červenci a září roku 2023. Analýzy listů byly provedeny pomocí XRF spektrometrie a analýzy půd metodami XRF a ICP-MS. Na zvýšené koncentrace Mn v listech břízy má vliv nízké pH půdy, které je důsledkem kyselých imisí vzniklých dopadem emisí z Třince. Limitující živinou pro břízu v Beskydech je pravděpodobně K, na což poukazuje antagonistický vztah mezi Mn a K v listech. Při nízkém obsahu K v listech břízy, narůstá koncentrace Mn. Dalšími faktory, působícími na obsah Mn a Zn v listech, mohou být také mikrotopografie terénu a splachy (přesun) iontů Mn po svahu. Ukázalo se, že zvýšené koncentrace Zn v listech břízy, řídí koncentrace Zn v půdě. Tento vztah je prokázaný lineární závislostí na grafech. Zinek se v půdě vyskytuje jednak v jeho mobilizované formě vlivem okyselení a jednak přímým působením imisního Zn.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the manganese and zinc content in white birch leaves, which are a consequence of emissions from the Třinec industry. The work includes selected sites in the Beskids sampled in July and September 2023. Leaf analyses were performed by XRF spectrometry and soil analyses by XRF and ICP-MS. The elevated Mn concentrations in birch leaves are influenced by the low soil pH, which is the result of acidic emissions from Třinec. The limiting nutrient for birch in the Beskids is probably K, as indicated by the antagonistic relationship between Mn and K in the leaves. When the K content of birch leaves is low, Mn concentration increases. Other factors influencing the Mn and Zn content of the leaves can also be the terrain microtopography and the downslope (movement) of Mn ions. Increased Zn concentrations in birch leaves have been shown to be controlled by Zn concentrations in soil. This relationship is demonstrated by linear dependence in graphs. Zinc occurs in soil in its rather mobile form both due to acidification and by direct action of Zn emission.
