Musicology and Digital Technology from Today's Point of View

Abstract:

Annotation The dissertation focuses on the relationship musicology and digital technology in terms of present from the scientific background of systematic methodology, which includes empirical and theoretical level. We examine the technical means available to obtain audio and optical data, further conversion, dominated by computer software. We analyse their functionality and value their contribution to the specific research from the perspective of musicologists. We look into the process of transcription and analysis, which is a complex area, where specific research-based tools based on digital technology only gradually have penetrated. We follow those that have already appeared in the context of specific projects and evaluate their benefits. Part of the work is a questionnaire survey, which maps the resource utilisation of digital technology in musicological research in the global and domestic context. In the end we analyse the songs for voice and piano by Ján Levoslav Bella, where we present the concrete possibilities of computer software in the field of music historiography.

Abstract:

Anotácia V dizertačnej práci sa zameriavame na vzťah muzikológie a digitálnej techniky z pohľadu súčasnosti na pozadí systematiky vedeckej metodológie, ktorá obsahuje empirickú a teoretickú úroveň. Skúmame dostupné technické prostriedky pri získavaní zvukových a optických dát, ďalej konverzii, kde dominujú počítačové softvéry. Analyzujeme ich funkcionalitu a hodnotíme ich prínos pri konkrétnych výskumoch z pohľadu muzikológov. Venujeme sa aj procesu transkripcie a analýzy, ktorá predstavuje zložitú oblasť, kde len postupne prenikajú špecifické výskumné nástroje založené na báze digitálnej techniky. Sledujeme tie, ktoré sa už objavili v rámci konkrétnych projektov a hodnotíme ich prínos. Súčasťou práce je dotazníkový prieskum, ktorý mapuje využitie prostriedkov digitálnej techniky v muzikologickom výskume v rámci svetového aj domáceho kontextu. V závere analyzujeme piesne pre spev a klavír od Jána Levoslava Bellu, kde prezentujeme konkrétne možnosti využitia počítačového softvéru v oblasti hudobnej historiografie.
