Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou designu objevujícího se v biografiích Fredericka Rolfe, jmenovitě v dílech The Quest For Corvo A. J. A. Symonse, Corvo: Saint or Madman? Donalda Weekse a Frederick Rolfe: Baron Corvo Miriam Benkovitz. Práce se za pomoci základu postaveného na teorii biografie snaží objevit silné a slabé stránky přístupů jednotlivých autorů, které jsou dale rozebírány na vybraných částech Rolfeho života. Pro analýzu přístupů, které biografové zaujímají, jsou využity úvodní pasáže zkoumaných prací. Dále se tato práce věnuje analýzou Venice Letters, ‘The Aberdeen Attack’ a Rolfeho vztahu s Johnem Holdenem.

Abstract:

The present work analyses the design employed in Frederick Rolfe’s biographies, namely in A. J. A. Symons’s The Quest for Corvo, Donald Weeks’s Corvo: Saint or Madman? and Miriam Benkovitz’s Frederick Rolfe: Baron Corvo. It attempts to, while consulting appropriate theoretical background to biography, discover the strengths and weaknesses of the particular approaches that are subsequently discussed on selected passages concerning Rolfe’s life. The analysis of the approaches the biographers take is done on the introductory passages of their works, which is followed by an analysis of the Venice Letters, ‘The Aberdeen Attack’, and Rolfe’s relationship to John Holden.
