Microbial growth in the presence of azo dyes

Abstract:

Pro odpadní vody z textilních továren a koželužen je charakteristický vysoký obsah azobarviv a dalších chemikálií. V poslední době je věnována pozornost možnosti jejich biologického čištění. Růst populací degradačních mikroorganismů je ovlivňován specifickým prostředím těchto odpadních vod, což muže mít vliv na účinnost biodegradačního procesu. V předkládané diplomové práci je studován účinek azobarviv Korostanové oranže G 180 a Korostanové modři BS na růst populací kvasinek, grampozitivních a gramnegativních bakterií. U vybraných kmenů byl vliv azobarviv sledován při různých kultivačních teplotách a pH media.

Abstract:

Effluents from textile and leather industry contain large amounts of azo dyes and other chemicals. Recently, scientific attention has been paid to the possibility of microbial treatment of this wastewater. The growth of the degradative microorganisms is influenced by the specific environment that can impact the effectiveness of the biodegradation process. This diploma thesis is aimed to the effect of azo dyes Direct Orange 39/46 and Direct Acid Blue (mixture) on the population growth of yeast, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Growth of some chosen strains was observed at various cultivation temperatures and pH levels of the medium.
