Material characterization of lead-free and lead-based ceramics

Abstract:

Disertační práce je motivována aktuální potřebou nahradit světově známou a v průmyslu široce využívanou olovnatou keramiku Pb(ZrxTix-1)O3 (zkráceně PZT) za systém, který by byl šetrnější k životnímu prostředí. Disertace práce je proto zaměřena na materiálovou charakterizaci vybraných tuhých roztoků: bezolovnaté keramiky (Bi0,5Na0,5)TiO3-(Bi0,5K0,5)TiO3-BaTiO3 (zkráceně BNBK), Ba2NdTi2Nb3O15 (BNTN) a na novou keramiku s nízkým obsahem olova SrPb8Ce2Ti12O36 (SP8CT). Sledovány jsou piezoelektrické, dielektrické a elastické vlastnosti těchto keramik, zvláště feroelektrické keramiky BNBK. Byl zkoumán vliv vnějšího stejnosměrného elektrického pole a hydrostatického tlaku na elektromechanické vlastnosti pro různé teploty. Pro keramiky typu BNBK, BNTN a SP8CT byly z experimentálně zjištěných rychlostí šíření podélných a příčných ultrazvukových vln vypočteny příslušné elastické moduly. Elektromechanické vlastnosti uvedených keramik byly určeny pomocí několika experimentálních metod připravených, resp. vyvinutých v Piezoelektrické laboratoři Katedry fyziky TU v Liberci. Jde zejména o rezonanční metodu, ultrazvuková měření rychlostí šíření ultrazvukových vln, měření polarizačních a deformačních hysterezních smyček, dynamickou hydrostatickou metodu. Měření byla prováděna za definovaných fyzikálních podmínek. Naměřená data umožňují vypočítat řadu materiálových parametrů. Data byla přehledně zpracována a zjištěné materiálové vlastnosti byly diskutovány a srovnávány s publikovanými údaji, pokud takové údaje existují.

Abstract:

The dissertation is motivated by the need to replace lead-based ceramics Pb(ZrxTix-1)O3 (abbreviated as PZT), which is renowned currently worldwide known and widely used in the industry, by a system that would be more environmentally friendly. The dissertation thesis is therefore focused on the material characterization of the selected solid solutions: lead-free ceramics (Bi0,5Na0,5)TiO3-(Bi0,5K0,5)TiO3-BaTiO3 (abbreviated BNBK), Ba2NdTi2Nb3O15 (BNTN) and the new ceramics with low lead content SrPb8Ce2Ti12O36 (SP8CT). Piezoelectric, dielectric and elastic properties of the ceramics, especially ferroelectric ceramics BNBK are observed. The influence of an external DC electric field and the hydrostatic pressure on the electromechanical properties was studied for different temperatures. Velocities of the ultrasound longitudinal and shear wave propagation were experimentally observed and the elastic modules of the ceramics BNBK, BNTN and SP8CT were calculated. The electromechanical properties of these ceramics were determined using several experimental methods prepared, respectively developed in the Piezoelectric laboratory at the Department of Physics at TUL. These are especially the resonant method, ultrasound velocity measurements of the ultrasound waves, polarization and strain hysteresis loops measurements and the dynamic hydrostatic method. The measurements were performed under defined physical conditions. The measured data enable to calculate an amount of material parameters. The data was clearly elaborated and detected material properties were discussed and compared with published data, where such data exist.
