Didactical functions of nonverbal items as an instrument of didactical transformation in Czech geography textbooks for lower secondary education

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou nonverbálních prvků v učebnicích zeměpisu, konkrétně zkoumá jejich didaktické funkce. Teoretická část se vztahuje nejprve k širším souvislostem řešené problematiky, jako je princip názornosti, vizualizace, transformace učiva a učebnice jako edukační médium, na což navazuje pojednání o nonverbálních prvcích. Empirická část zahrnuje dvě výzkumná šetření. První výzkumné šetření bylo realizováno jako srovnávací obsahová analýza vybraných českých učebnic regionálního zeměpisu České republiky pro nižší stupeň sekundárního vzdělávání, prostřednictvím ověřeného kategoriálního systému. Cílem bylo zjistit, jaké didaktické funkce nonverbálních prvků se vyskytují v učebnicích zeměpisu a na základě tohoto zjištění porovnat zkoumané učebnice. Cílem druhého výzkumného šetření bylo zjistit, jaké didaktické funkce připisují učitelé nonverbálním prvkům v učebnicích zeměpisu, za jakým účelem je využívají a jak je hodnotí. Ve druhém výzkumném šetření byl jako výzkumná metoda použit polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Výpovědi získané z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů potvrdily některá zjištění z kvantitativní analýzy učebnic. Konkrétně učitelé upozornili na nízký výskyt didaktických funkcí nonverbálních prvků podporujících učení se z výukového textu a také nonverbálních prvků určených pro aktivní práci.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of nonverbal items in Geography textbooks, specifically it is focused on their didactic functions. The theoretical part refers first to the broader context of the solved problem, such as the principle of clarity, visualization, curriculum transformation and textbooks as an educational medium, what follows discourse of nonverbal items. In the empirical part, the research is divided into two research inquires. The quantitative inquiry was conducted as a comparative content analysis of selected Czech textbooks of regional geography Czech Republic for the lower level of secondary education, through the verified system of categories. The research aim was to investigate what didactic functions of nonverbal items are included in actual Czech Geography textbooks and on the basis of these findings to compare analysed textbooks. The research aim within the second inquiry was to investigate, which didactic functions teachers attribute to nonverbal items in Geography textbooks, for what purpose they use it and how they evaluate it. In the qualitative research as a research method semi-structured interview was used. Results obtained from semi-structured interviews confirmed some of the findings of the first investigation. Specifically, teachers highlight a low incidence of didactic functions that support learning from educational text and low incidence of nonverbal items designed to support active learning of pupils.
