Time in Aristotle and St. Augustine

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce je představit, objasnit a srovnat problematiku pojetí času v textech Aristotela a Augustina. U Aristotela jsme se setkali s definicí času jako počtu pohybu vzhledem k před a po. Vnímáme minulost, přítomnost a budoucnost, přičemž ani jedno nepovažuje za jsoucí a "nyní" můžeme chápat jako mez budoucího a minulého a zároveň jako spojení těchto. Nicméně otázka po vymezení přítomného okamžiku zůstává otevřena. V dalších dílech se Aristotelés věnuje času i z jiných pohledů. Augustin přichází s trojitou strukturou času minulosti, přítomnosti a budoucnosti jako ustáleného obecného pojetí času. I on hledá konkrétní existující "okamžik", který by byl uchopitelný jako právě jsoucí. Stěžejní Augustinovou myšlenou je, že čas měříme duchem, či v duchu. Měříme dojem, kterým na nás působily věci v minulosti a který v mysli nadále přetrvává. Děj přechází z paměti přes vnímanou přítomnost v očekávání budoucnosti. V závěru se práce věnuje cyklickému a lineárnímu pojetí času.

Abstract:

The main target of this thesis is to present, explain and compare the problems of the concept of time in the texts of Aristotle and Augustine. In Aristotle we encountered the definition of time as "the number of movement relative to before and after". We perceive the past, present and future, but none Aristotle considered as existent "now" can be understood as a limit of the future and of the past as well as a connection of these. However, the question of the definition of the present moment remains open. In other writings Aristotle deals with the time from other perspectives. Augustin comes with a triple structure of time past, present and future as a steady general conception of time. He is looking for specific existing "moment" which would be graspable as just existent. Augustine's main idea is that time is measured by the spirit, or in the spirit. We measure the impression which things appeal to us in the past and which persists in the mind. The plot goes from memory over perceived presence in anticipation of the future. At the end the work deals with cyclic and linear conception of time.
