Interactions of drugs with nutritional components, their interaction and possible impact on the health of the individual

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce bylo popsání interakce léčiv se složkami potravy, jejich vzájemné působení a dopad na zdraví jedince. V teoretické části byly popsány základní pojmy související s touto problematikou a byly zde popsány interakce léků například s citrusy, třezalkou tečkovanou, mlékem nebo banánem. Dále byly v teoretické části popsány změny farmakokinetiky a farmakodynamiky u vybraných skupin populace, např. u seniorů. V praktické části byla dotazníkovým šetřením zjišťována informovanost populace o možnosti interakcí léků s potravinami nebo nápoji. Také bylo zjišťováno, zda respondenti vynechávají z jídelníčku potraviny a nápoje, které interagují s léky. V druhé části bakalářské práce byl vypracován edukační materiál pro populaci a případně pro pacienty navštěvující nutriční poradnu. Cílem praktické části bylo zjistit, zda lékaři a lékárníci informují pacienty o jednotlivých lékových interakcích a především, zda pacienti tyto zásady dodržují. Bylo zjištěno, že respondenti nejsou dostatečně informováni od lékařů a lékárníků o možnostech interakce mezi lékem a potravinou nebo nápojem. Dále bylo zjištěno, že i když respondenti vědí o možnosti interakce léku s potravinou nebo nápojem, tak většinou danou potravinu nebo nápoj do jídelníčku zařazují.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis was to describe the interaction of drugs with food ingredients, their interaction and impact on the health of an individual. In the theoretical part the basic terms related to this issue were described and drug interactions with citrus, St. John´s wort, milk or banana were described. Furthermore, the theoretical part describe changes in pharmatcinetics and pharmacodynamics in selected population groups (for example seniors). In the practical part the questionnaire survey ascertained the awareness of the population about possibility of drug interactions with food or beverages that interact with medicines from the diet. In the second part of bachelor thesis was elaborated educational material for population and eventually for patients attending nutritional counseling. The aim of the practical part was to find out whether doctors and pharmacists inform patients about individual drug interactions and above all whether patients follow these principles. It was found that respondents were not sufficiently informed by doctors and pharmacists about the possibilities of drug - food or beverage interaction. It was also found that although respondents know about the possibillity of drug interaction with food or drink, they usually include the food or drink in the diet.
