Arabic Folk Music of the Region of Damascus as a Reflection of Cultural Values

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá lidovou hudbou oblasti Damašku, konkrétně její obsahovou stránkou. Uvádí příklady damašských lidových písní v kontextu sociálních situací a příležitostí, při kterých byly zpívány. Po formální a hudební stránce písně zkoumány nejsou. Práce nejprve představuje arabskou hudbu jako celek, stručně nastiňuje její historický vývoj, hlavní principy teorie arabské hudby a popisuje nejužívanější hudební nástroje a žánry arabské hudby. Kromě konkrétního pohledu do Damašku se práce také věnuje hudbě celé Sýrie, a to jak klasické a populární, tak lidové.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the topic of Arabic folk music of the region of Damascus. The thesis introduces examples of texts of the local folk songs in context of social situations and occasions in which they are sung. The thesis does not deal with the formal and musical aspects of the songs. The main chapter about the folk music of Damascus is preceded by the chapter that deals with the topic of Arabic music as a whole. It contains the history of Arabic music, its basic musical theory, classification of main musical instruments and genres of the Arabic music. Except the concrete look at the folk songs of Damascus the thesis focuses also on the Syrian music in general.
