Special techniques of radiotherapy of brain metastases

Abstract:

Radioterapie patří mezi základní metody používané v léčbě nádorů CNS. Obzvláště při léčbě sekundárních mozkových malignit má nepostradatelný význam. Předmětem této bakalářské práce je vyhodnocení výsledků léčby skupiny 150 pacientů, kteří na Klinice radiační onkologie Masarykova onkologického ústavu (KRO MOÚ) v roce 2018 podstoupili ozáření mozku pro přítomnost mozkových metastáz. Zaměřuje se na použité radioterapeutické techniky a vypracování křivek přežití. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části je popsána anatomie mozku, dále je zde stručně rozebrána problematika mozkových nádorů a možnosti jejich terapie – největší prostor je přitom pochopitelně věnován radioterapii. V praktické části jsou výsledky léčby zkoumané skupiny pacientů statisticky zpracovány do tabulek a grafů. Pravděpodobnosti přežití jsou vyjádřeny pomocí Kaplan Meierových křivek přežití.

Abstract:

Radiotherapy is one of the fundamental methods which are used in the treatment of CNS tumours. It has essential importance especially in the treatment of secondary brain malignancies. The aim of this bachelor thesis is evaluation of the results of treatment of a group with 150 patients, who underwent brain metastases irradiation at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute (MMCI) in the year 2018. It focuses on used radiotherapeutic techniques and survival outcomes estimations. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes brain anatomy, then there is briefly discussed the issue of the brain tumours and the possibilities of their therapy – the greatest space is naturally devoted to radiotherapy. In the practical part, there are statistical analyses of the investigated group of patients. The survival outcomes are reported by using Kaplan-Meier's survival curves.
