Narcissism and value orientation

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o vzniku a vývoji narcismu, jeho formách a možnostech měření, o teoriích hodnot a hodnotových orientací, jejich klasifikačních systémech a možnostech měření, a nakonec o vztahu mezi těmito dvěma konstrukty. Jejím cílem bylo zjistit, zda existuje statisticky významný vztah mezi mírou narcismu u jedinců a jejich hodnotovou orientací. Tento vztah jsme se rozhodli zkoumat na výzkumném souboru vysokoškolských studentů oboru všeobecného lékařství a oboru práva a právní vědy. K výzkumnému šetření jsme použili dva standardizované dotazníky; PVQ zjišťující preferenci hodnot od S. H. Schwartze a NPI zjišťující míru narcismu od R. N. Raskina a C. S. Halla. Ke sledování síly vztahů mezi dvěma proměnnými jsme použili Pearsonovu korelaci a ke hledání rozdílů mezi jednotlivými skupinami Studentův dvouvýběrový t-test. Z výzkumného šetření plyne, že míra narcismu souvisí s hodnotovou orientací a mezi výzkumným souborem existují statisticky významné rozdíly na úrovních 0,01 a 0,05.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the origin and development of narcissism, its forms and possible ways of measurments, it also fosuses on the theories of values and value orientations, its classification system and possible ways of measurments and lastly this thesis focuses on the relation between these two constructs. The aim of this thesis was to find out whether there is a statistically significant relation between the narcissistic extent in individuals and their value orientations. To examine this relation, we decided to do a research among law and medical students. For the research investigation we chose two standardized questionnaires; for detecting the value preferences we used PVQ constructed by S. H. Schwartz and for detecting the narcissistic extent we used NPI constructed by R. N. Raskin and C. S. Hall. To observe the strength of the relations between two variables we used the Pearson correlation and to detect the differences between each group of students we used the Two Sample T-Test. The research investigation implies that the narcissistic extent does relate to the value orientation and there are statistically significant differences between the research ensembles.
