Some of the problems associated with the return of the gray wolf Canis lupus in the countryside of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

U všech otázek týkajících se názoru na návrat vlka obecného do České republiky, byl prokázán rozdíl mezi typem respondenta (široká veřejnost, myslivec a farmář) a jeho odpovědí. Pozitivně se k návratu této šelmy staví široká veřejnost. Ačkoli si je veřejnost vědoma škod, které vlk působí na hospodářských zvířatech, je přesvědčena, že tento problém je řešitelný a nepovolila by regulaci legálním odstřelem. Pro myslivce, dle jejich názoru, nepředstavuje škodnou. Myslivci jsou v otázce návratu vlka spíše negativní. Pro tuto šelmu v České přírodě nevidí místo. Naopak vnímají vlka jako škodnou nejen pro farmáře, ale také pro svůj obor a regulovaný odstřel by povolili. Farmáři k celé věci mají spíše neutrální postoj. Ačkoli jsou spíše pro návrat vlka a pro myslivce šelmu nevnímají jako škodnou, pro sebe a svá zvířata ano. Jen polovina farmářů si myslí, že lze zvířata před vlkem ochránit. Polovina se pozitivně staví k možnosti regulace odstřelem. Rozdíl byl viditelný i mezi kraji s výskytem vlka a kraji, kde se jeho přítomnost nevyskytuje. Respondenti pocházející z krajů bez přítomnosti vlka, jsou k jeho návratu pozitivnější. Druhá skupina je též pozitivní, ale má větší obavy z následků návratu šelmy.Škody na hospodářských zvířatech byly potvrzeny v deseti krajích České republiky, a to hlavně v příhraničí. Nárůst počtu vlků nastal především v posledních pěti letech. Stát vyplácí škody většinou v plné výši a doposud proplatil 74,45 % způsobených škod, přičemž některé žádosti jsou stále v řešení. Poškozeným farmářům tyto náhrady mnohdy nestačí a žádají i jiná řešení.Výskyt vlka byl potvrzen hlavně u příhraničí, v chráněných krajinných oblastech. K potvrzení přítomnosti vlka jsou využívány především fotopasti a pobytové znaky, které sbírá hnutí Duha. Na Broumovsku, Kokořínsku a Rálské pahorkatině byl pozorován i odchov mláďat. Na Vysočině byl nalezen vlk sražený autem a na Liberecku dokonce zastřelený jedinec.

Abstract:

For all questions concerning the opinion on the return of the wolf to the Czech Republic, the difference between the type of respondent (the general public, the chasseur and the farmer) and his answers was established. The general public is affirmative about the return of this beast. Although the public is aware of the damage caused by wolves to livestock, it is convinced that this problem is solvable and would not allow regulation by a legal cull. For chasseurs, in their opinion, the wolf is not a varmint. The chasseurs are rather negative about the wolf's return, for they can not see a place for this beast in Czech nature. Instead, they perceive the wolf as a varmint not only to the farmer, but also to their field and they are for a regulated cull. Farmers have largely neutral stance on the matter. Although they mostly don't percieve wolves as a varmint for the chasseurs, they do percieve them as such for themselves and their livestock. Only half of the farmers think that livestock can be protected from the wolf. Half of the farmers positively sees the possibility of a culling. The difference was also visible between wolves and regions where their presence did not occur. Respondents coming from the wolf-free regions are more welcoming towards his return. The second group is also welcoming but is more concerned with the consequences of the return of the beast.The damage to livestock was confirmed in ten regions of the Czech Republic, mainly in the border area. The increase in the number of wolves has occurred especially in the last five years. The state pays the damages mostly in full and has so far paid out 74.45% of the damage caused, some of which are still being processed. The refunds payed to the farmers are often not sufficient for them and they ask for other solutions.The occurrence of the wolf was confirmed mainly in border areas, in protected landscape areas. To confirm the presence of the wolf are mainly used trail cameras and residence signs, which are collected by the Duha movement. In Broumov, Kokořínsko and Ralské hory, breeding was also observed. In Vysočina was found a wolf hit by car and in Liberec was even found a shot individual.
