Conflicts between partners after the birth of the first child from mothers' view

Abstract:

Narození dítěte je všeobecně vnímáno jako obohacující a šťastná událost v lidském životě. Mezi širší veřejností ovšem už není natolik známa skutečnost, že po narození dítěte dochází k poklesu kvality partnerského života. Na základě předchozích výzkumů je doloženo, že období přechodu k rodičovství je spojeno s častějším výskytem partnerských konfliktů. V tomto výzkumu byly sledovány vztahy mezi několika proměnnými, které ovlivňují partnerské konflikty v tomto tranzitorním období. Sledovaný vzorek tvořilo 198 žen s jedním dítětem ve věku 6 – 12 měsíců. Získaná data byla zpracována kvantitativní metodou, za použití modelu lineární regresní analýzy. Na základě zjištěných výsledků byla potvrzena souvislost mezi vyšší mírou neuroticismu a vyšší četností konfliktů týkajících sexu. Dále z dat vyplývá, že vyšší míra spokojenosti se vztahem souvisí jednak s nižší četností konfliktů na téma „péče o dítě“, ale také nižší četností konfliktů na téma „domácí práce“. Rovněž byla potvrzena souvislost mezi vyšší mírou prožívaného stresu a vyšší četností konfliktů na téma „sex“. Tato práce také poukázala na možné souvislosti konfliktů s dalšími faktory, které by mohly být cílem budoucích výzkumů.

Abstract:

The child birth is generally perceived as an enriching and happy event in human life. Among the general public, however, it is not a well known fact that after a child birth the partner life quality decrease comes about. Based on the previous research, it has been documented that the period of transition towards parenthood is connected with a more frequent occurrence of conflicts between the partners. In this study, relations between a number of variables were observed that affect the partner conflicts in this transient period. The observed sample consisted of 198 women with one child from 6 to 12 months of age. The data received were processed by the quantitative method using the linear regression analysis model. On the basis of the results established, the connection between higher degree of neuroticism and the higher frequency of conflicts concerning sex has been confirmed. Furthermore, it is implicit from the data that the higher level of satisfaction in a relationship is interconnected both with lower frequency of conflict episodes with the "child care" theme as well as with the lower frequency of conflicts connected with the "housekeeping" theme. The connection between higher degree of neuroticism and the higher frequency of conflicts concerning the subject of "sex" has been confirmed as well. This work referred to possible interconnections of the conflicts with other factors, which could be focused in future studies.
