Improving IP Geolocation Using Network Measurement Characteristics

Abstract:

Diplomová práce popisuje principy vyhodnocování fyzické polohy stanic v síťovém prostředí Internetu se zaměřením na pasivní metody IP geolokace. Vytvořené programové výbavení, umožňuji zjišťovat pozici stanic na Internetu pomocí zvolených lokalizačních databází. Algoritmus, který je k lokalizaci pozice stanice využíva kombinaci lokalizační databáze a další dostupné prostředky IP geolokace. Diplomová práce popisuje princip navázaní TCP spojení. Vysvětluje způsob činnosti protokolu TCP a ukazuje jak se dá výužívat TCP-handshake při zjišťování vzdálenosti počitačů. Pro zjišťování vzdálenosti dvou anebo více počítačů diplomová práce popisuje analýzu TCP monitorováním TCP paketů s pomocí kterých je možné spočitát TCP Round Trip Time a porovnání výsledku z metodami výpočtu měření vzdálenosti IATA, TTL a GeoIP. V závěru práce je provedeno zhodnocení vytvořeného systému a testy výkonu.

Abstract:

This thesis describes the basic principles of evaluation of the physical location of the network focusing on passive IP geolocation methods. Creating software application, enable us to determine the position of the stations on the Internet using selected localization databases. The algorithm for locating the position of the station uses the combination of location databases and other available means of IP geolocations. The thesis describes basic principles of TCP connection. It explains the activities of TCP protocol and shows how you can utilize TCP handshake in determining the distance between nodes. To detect the distance between two or more computers thesis describes the analysis of TCP by monitoring TCP packets to calculate the TCP Round Trip Time and comparing the results from the methods such as IATA, TTL and GEOIP for calculating distance measurement. In the end, there is an assessment of the created system and performance tests.
