All My Loved Ones: The relationship between perceived parental conflict and sensitization

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo ověřit, zda vnímání vyšší frekvence rodičovského konfliktu a vnímání se jako zataženého do těchto konfliktů u adolescentů souvisí se senzitivizací vůči konfliktům v širším sociálním prostředí, přičemž se v rámci práce přihlíželo ke genderovým a věkovým rozdílům vybrané populace. Konkrétně pak bylo zkoumáno, zda vnímaná frekvence a triangulace v kontextu rodičovského konfliktu může predikovat vyšší konfliktnost adolescenta s matkou, otcem a přáteli a zda souvisí se specifickými emoční reakcemi, behaviorálními strategiemi a kognitivními reprezentacemi. Data byla získána pomocí dotazníku v rámci projektu Všichni moji blízcí. Pro účely této práce byla využita data od 164 respondentů ve věku 11-18 let. Výsledky ukázaly, že vnímání vysoké frekvence rodičovských konfliktů a období střední adolescence predikuje vyšší konfliktnost adolescenta s matkou a otcem, nikoli však s přáteli. Jediným signifikantním prediktorem konfliktu adolescenta s přáteli se ukázalo být pohlaví. Dále bylo zjištěno, že reportování nepříjemných pocitů a volba strategie mediace při vystavení následným konfliktům mezi spolužáky souvisí s vyšší triangulací do rodičovského konfliktu. Výsledky studie jsou diskutovány v kontextu předchozích empirických zjištění.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to verify that higher frequency perception of parental conflict and percepting yourself as drawn into these conflicts in adolescents relates with sensitization to conflicts in wide social environment, whereas gender and age differences in selected population were taken into consideration. Concretely it was examined if percepted frequency and triangulation in context of parental conflict could predict higher degree of conflicts of adolescents with their mothers and fathers and friends and if it is related with specific emotional reactions, behavioral strategies and cognitive representations. Data were collected with the aid of questionnaire within the framework of the project "All my loved ones". Data from 164 respondents within the age of 11-18 were collected for purposes of this study. Results showed that perception of higher frequency of parental conflicts and period of middle adolescence predicts higher degree of conflicts of adolescents with their mothers and fathers but not with friends. Gender appears to be the only significant predictor of conflict of adolescent with his/her friends. Next it was detected that reporting unpleasant feelings and choice of meditation strategy during exposition to consecutive conflict between classmates relates with higher triangulation into parental conflict. Results of this study are discussed in context of previous empiric foundings.
