Web optimization for mobile devices and analysis of it's effects

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o problematice návrhu a vývoje webu pro mobilní zařízení a jejich přínosech. Teoretická část práce je zaměřena na popis mobilního trhu a mobilních zařízení a jejich specifika s důrazem na budoucí vývoj a argumentaci, proč je trh mobilních technologií perspektivní. Dále zahrnuje popis metod a přístup k tvorbě designu mobilních aplikací se zaměřením na aplikace webové. Poslední kapitola teoretické části nabízí přehled technologií pro vývoj mobilního webu se zaměřením na specifika mobilních zařízení a možnosti těchto technologií přiblížit webové aplikace těm nativním. Praktická část práce následně tyto popsané teorie ověřuje na reálném projektu zpravodajského webu tím, že jsou na něm provedeny optimalizace pro mobilní zařízení. Následně je analyzováno, jaké přínosy tato optimalizace přinesla tomuto webu od čehož je odvozen také obecný dopad přizpůsobení webu potřebám mobilních zařízení. Hlavním cílem práce je poskytnutí komplexního přehledu metod a technologií využitelných při návrhu a vývoji mobilního webu a provedená analýza, která má ověřit přínosy těchto teorií v praxi. Výsledky analýzy jsou také hlavním přínosem této práce, jelikož poskytují informace o přínosnosti popisovaných metod na významném fungujícím projektu, který používá mnoho uživatelů. Přínosem je také část s popisem implementace, která poskytuje reálné zkušenosti a odkrývá problémy popisovaných teorií v praxi.

Abstract:

The thesis is about the phenomena and benefits of design and development for mobile devices. Theoretical part of the thesis is focused on describing the mobile market's and devices' specifics and their future development and reasoning their values. In-depth description of the methods and problems of mobile applications' design with focus on web applications is included as well as the overview of technologies for mobile web development. Capability comparison of these technologies with the possibilities of native applications are described too. The practical part of the thesis aims to verify these theories by applying them to a real project (news portal). After an implementation part the thesis provides an analysis of the benefits this implementation provided to the project. The main goals of this thesis are providing complex overview of the methods and technologies for mobile web development and the analysis, which verifies the benefits and outcomes of these theories in real practice. Results of this analysis are as well the main contribution of this theses as it provides valuable information about the benefits of described methods on real project which is used by many users. Other contribution is the part describing the implementation which unveils practical information and real problems of described theoretical methods on practical examples.
