Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce představuje dvě díla autorek Jane Austen a Iris Murdoch a zkoumá rozdíly a podobnosti které se nacházejí ve dvou románech, které byly napsány ve dvou různých obdobích. Román Pýcha a Předsudek představuje dobu, ve které žila Jane Austen, a román Zvon zastupuje dvacáté století. Diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku patriarchátu a na témata spojená s touto problematikou. Teoretická část se zabývá popisem života a díla obou autorek a představuje období ve kterém autorky žily. Nicméně, toto historické pozadí je zaměřeno hlavně na otázky týkající se postavení žen ve dvou rozdílných století. Praktická část zahrnuje analýzu postav a jejich vztahů a pomocí srovnání těchto dvou novel odhaluje, ve kterých oblastech jsou romány podobné nebo odlišné vzhledem k předmětu týkajícího se patriarchálních hodnot.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis introduces two works of authors Jane Austen and Iris Murdoch and examines differences and similarities which can be found in the two novels written in different periods of time. The novel Pride and Prejudice serves as a representative of Austen's time and The Bell represents the twentieth century. The diploma thesis is focused on the issue of patriarchy and subjects which are connected with this topic. The theoretical part deals with description of authors' lives and their works and it introduces the periods of time in which the authors lived in. Nevertheless, this historical background is mainly focused on issues concerning the position of women in two different centuries. The practical part includes the analysis of the novel characters and their relationships and through the comparison of the two novels, it reveals, in which ways the novels are similar or different in relation to the issue concerning the patriarchal values.
