Art Interpretation as Spiritual Education

Abstract:

V umění lze nalézat vztahy a principy duchovního významu. Na možné cesty jejich interpretace poukazuji s použitím Arnheimovy tvarové teorie a Panofského ikonologie. Jedním z významných výrazových prostředků je kompozice obrazu. Kompozice nás odkazuje nejen k intenci autora a díla, ale i k strukturálním silám přírody a celého kosmu. V uvedeném smyslu přináším podněty k ,,besedám o umění“, poukazuji na jejich možné formy a způsoby. Připravil jsem také modelové příklady pro praktická cvičení směřující k podpoře výtvarného myšlení a tvarové senzitivity, k dovednosti rozpoznat kvalitní kompozici. Na uvedené navazuje ikonologické hledisko aplikované ve společných zamyšleních nad symbolikou vepsanou do obrazu, nad kontexty jeho duchovního poselství. V obou cestách, v ikonologii i tvarové teorii, shledávám příležitost směřovat žáky k duchovnímu prožitku lidské existence, v souhlase s pojetím ,,transcendence“ Jindřicha Chalupeckého.

Abstract:

There aspects and principles of spiritual significant to be found in art. The author identifies possible interpretative approaches in this regard using Arnheim’s shape theory and Panofsky’s iconology. One means of expressing meaning is the composition of an image. Composition refers us not just to the intentions of the author and the work, but also to the structural forces of nature and the cosmos as a whole. With this in mind, the author proposes materials for educational ‘art forums’ and identifies possible forms and methods for this. The author also prepared model examples for practical exercises directed at encouraging artistic thought and shape sensitivity and at developing the ability to recognise quality composition. In this connection he refers to the iconological perspective applied in joint reflections on the symbolism inscribed in images and on the contexts of its spiritual message. In both directions, in iconology and shape theory, the other sees an opportunity to guide students towards experiencing human existence in conformity with Jindřich Chalupecký’s concept of ‘transcendence’.
