Solo and chamber compositions for English horn by Czech composers of the 20th and 21st century

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zaměřuje na sólové a komorní skladby pro anglický roh českých autorů 20. a 21. století v obsazení do pěti nástrojů, včetně skladeb pro anglický roh a orchestr. Práce obsahuje informace o sto osmnácti hudebních dílech od sedmdesáti devíti skladatelů, které jsou přehledně členěny do osmi oddílů. Po prvním oddílu teoretickém následují další, jež se konkrétně týkají samotných skladeb a jsou řazeny podle počtu hlasů v jednotlivých kompozicích. Dílčí kapitoly nesou název autora a konkrétního díla, přičemž každá začíná stručným životopisným medailonem o skladateli a seznamem kompozic, ve kterých je uplatněn hoboj nebo anglický roh. Následují informace o zmíněné skladbě, tedy podrobnosti o vzniku, o premiéře nebo provedení, o délce, o dostupnosti notového materiálu a popřípadě o existenci nahrávky. Kapitola bývá zpravidla ukončena krátkým interpretačním komentářem z pohledu hráče na anglický roh.

Abstract:

The dissertation focuses on solo and chamber compositions for the English horn by 20th and 21st century Czech authors composed for five instruments at most, including compositions for the English horn and an orchestra. The work contains information about one hundred and eighteen musical works by seventy-nine composers, which are arranged into eight sections. The first theoretical section is followed by others that relate specifically to the compositions themselves and are ordered according to the number of instrument parts in each composition. The individual chapters bear the title of the author and of the specific work, each starting with a brief biography of the composer and a list of compositions in which the oboe or English horn is used. This is followed by information about the composition, i.e. details of the origin, its premiere or performance, length, availability of the score and, where appropriate, the existence of the recording. The chapter is usually finished with a short interpretative commentary from the English horn player's point of view.
