The Effects of Classroom Social Environment on the Creativity of Elementary Grade 8 Students

Abstract:

The work studies the relationship between classroom social environment and creativity of students, more specifically Grade 8 students at elementary school. The aim of this master’s thesis is to find out if there is a positive correlation between these variables. The theoretical part of the thesis first defines the concept of creativity and then discusses the relationship between creativity and intelligence. The next chapter deals with determinants, factors and barriers of creativity. It also focuses on the ways of developing creativity. The end of the first chapter investigates the ways of evaluating creativity. The second chapter has a similar structure; it first defines the concept of social environment and then discusses the factors and elements of social environment. The next chapter introduces the theme of building social environment. The effects of social environment on students and teaching process are described, followed by a brief summary of the methods of evaluating social environment. The practical part of the thesis is divided into three chapters. The goals and hypotheses of the research are defined in the first one. The next chapter deals with the methodology of the research, i.e. the characterization of sample, time management of the research and mainly the methods of gaining and evaluating data. In the thesis, quantitative (TTCT test, CES questionnaire and others) and also qualitative (e.g. observation) methods are applied. Different mathematical-statistical operations are used to evaluate the outcomes. The fifth chapter presents the results of the research and interprets them. In the conclusion, the formulated hypotheses are confirmed and recommendations for practice are suggested.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá vzťahom medzi sociálnou klímou triedy a tvorivosťou žiakov, konkrétne 8. ročníka ZŠ. Cieľom predloženej diplomovej práce je zistiť či sa medzi týmito premennými nachádza pozitívna korelácia. V úvode teoretickej časti je vymedzený pojem tvorivosť, ďalšia podkapitola zahŕňa vzťah tvorivosti a inteligencie. Následne sa zaoberáme determinantmi, faktormi a bariérami tvorivosti, ako i možnosťami jej rozvíjania. V závere prvej kapitoly sa venujeme možnostiam merania tvorivosti. Podobnú štruktúru má i druhá kapitola, ktorá pojednáva o vymedzení pojmu sociálna klíma, ďalej o jej činiteľoch a zložkách. Ďalšia podkapitola predstavuje tému budovanie sociálnej klímy. Následne sa zaoberáme vplyvom sociálnej klímy na žiaka ako i na proces vyučovania. V závere tejto kapitoly je stručný prehľad metód merania sociálnej klímy. Praktická časť práce je členená na tri kapitoly. V prvej z nich sú definované ciele a hypotézy výskumu. V poradí štvrtá kapitola sa zaoberá metodikou nášho výskumu, čiže charakterizujeme výberový súbor, časové rozloženie výskumu a najmä metódy získavania a vyhodnocovania dát. V našej práci využívame ako kvantitatívnu (test TTCT, tiež dotazník CES a i.)tak aj kvalitatívnu (napr.: pozorovanie) metodológiu. Za účelom vyhodnotenia výsledkov výskumu sme použili rôzne matematicko-štatistické operácie. Piata kapitola prezentuje výsledky výskumu, vrátane našej interpretácie. V závere overujeme stanovené hypotézy a vyjadrujeme odporúčania pre prax.
