Musical and Textual Analysis of the Most Streamed Artists on Czech Spotify in the 2013-2023 Period

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl analýzu tvorby nejstreamovanějších interpretů na českém Spotify v letech 2013-2023, a to jak po hudební, tak po textové stránce. Teoretická část přibližuje výchozí principy hudebně-textové analýzy. Praktická část se věnuje hudebně-textové analýze jednotlivých písní nejstreamovanějších českých interpretů. Jedná se o kvantitativnělingvistickou analýzu (měřitelně) úspěšných písní ze zvoleného období, která je doplněna muzikologickým rozborem vybraného hudebního materiálu. Kvantitativnělingvistický rozbor se zaměří na klíčová slova (KW), anglicismy, vulgarismy, aktivitu (Q), vzdálenost sloves (VD), průměrnou délku tokenu (ATL), distribuci slovních druhů a index slovního bohatství (MATTR). Druhý segment praktické části práce se soustřeďuje na využití didaktického potenciálu hudebně-textové analýzy a jejích interdisciplinárních přesahů.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse the songs of the most streamed artists on Czech Spotify from 2013 to 2023 from the perspectives of music and lyrics. The theoretical part introduces the basic principles of music-text analysis. The practical part focuses on the music-text analysis of songs by the most streamed Czech artists. This involves a quantitative-linguistic analysis of (measurably) successful songs from the selected period, which is supplemented by a musicological analysis of the selected musical material. The quantitative-linguistic analysis will examine keywords (KW), English loanwords, vulgar expressions, activity (Q), verb distance (VD), average token length (ATL), distributions of parts of speech, and the index of lexical richness (MATTR). The second part of the analytical section explores the didactic potential of music-text analysis and its interdisciplinary implications.
