Fish community composition in the Lake Turkana (Kenya)

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o ichtyofauně v uzavřeném povodí afrického jezera Turkana v Keni a delty řeky Omo. Během českých expedic v letech 2008 až 2010 zde bylo zaznamenáno celkem 48 druhů ryb, přičemž tři druhy - Labeo coubie, Heterobranchus bidorsalis a Auchenoglanis biscutatus – byly pro povodí Omo-Turkana zaznamenány jako nové. Jádro práce tvoří seznam druhů zaznamenaných na osmi vzorkovaných lokalitách a jeho diskutování. Výzkum z let 2008-2010 je možná jednou z posledních studií jezera před dokončením přehrady Gibe III na řece Omo, která tvoří hlavní přítok Turkany.

Abstract:

This work covers the topic of ichtyofauna in closed catchment area of the lake Turkana in Kenya and of the delta of the Omo river. During czech expeditions in the years 2008-2010 in total 48 fish species were found. Three of them - Labeo coubie, Heterobranchus bidorsalis and Auchenoglanis biscutatus – were recorded for the first time in the catchment area Omo-Turkana. The core of the work consists of presenting and discussing the list of species found in the eight sampled locations. Possibly, the research in the years 2008-2010 is one of the last studies of the lake before finishing of the Gibe III Dam on the Omo river that is the main inflow of Turkana.
