The empirical analyses of Western countries from Kostelka, Blais and Gidengilc (2018) manifest that although there is generally no gender gap in first-order elections, women tend to vote less than men in second-order contests which are also European elections. Empirické analýzy západných krajín od Kostelku, Blaisa a Gidengilca (2018) ukazujú, že hoci vo voľbách prvého rádu vo všeobecnosti neexistujú rodové rozdiely, ženy majú tendenciu voliť menej ako muži vo voľbách druhého rádu, ktoré sú zároveň voľbami do Európskeho parlamentu.
