Prediction of Electricity Production from Gas in the Region of Western Europe

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá predikcí výroby elektrické energie z plynu v regionu západní Evropy, konkrétně ve čtyřech zemích: Německu, Francii, Belgii a Nizozemsku. Hlavním cílem práce je vytvořit funkční ekonometrický model, který umožní předpovědět výrobu elektrické energie z plynu v daném časovém období. Teoretická část obsahuje literární rešerši, vztahující se k pojmům konkurenceschopnosti, SWOT analýze a BCG matici, dále jsou vysvětleny pojmy související s ekonometrií. Praktická část aplikuje teoretické poznatky pro sestavení ekonometrického regresního modelu v závislosti na 4 proměnných (poptávka po elektřině, výroba z hnědého uhlí, konkurenceschopnost uhlí a plynu, výroba z nízkoemisních zdrojů). Sestavený a otestovaný regresní model prokázal funkčnost při odhadování budoucího vývoje výroby elektřiny z plynu v západních státech Evropy.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the prediction of gas-fired power generation in the Western European region, specifically in four countries: Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The main objective of the thesis is to develop a working econometric model to forecast gas-fired power generation over a given time period. The theoretical part includes a literature search related to the concepts of competitiveness, SWOT analysis and BCG matrix, and econometrics related concepts are explained. The practical part applies the theoretical knowledge to build an econometric regression model depending on 4 variables (electricity demand, lignite generation, coal and gas competitiveness, low-emission generation). The constructed and tested regression model proved its functionality in estimating the future development of gas-fired electricity generation in Western European countries.
