Psychological stress of workers dispatching emergency medical services

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou psychické zátěže operátorů Zdravotnických operačních středisek (dále jen ZOS). Byť je ZOS nepostradatelnou součástí Zdravotnické záchranné služby (dále jen ZZS), tak se péči o duševní zdraví operátorů nepřiklání tolik pozornosti jako výjezdovým skupinám v terénu. Operátoři jsou také vystaveni stresovým situacím, aniž by museli být konfrontováni atmosférou na místě události. Práce na ZOS je specifická a klade vysoký nárok na psychickou odolnost. Teoretická část je rozdělena do třech částí. Zabývá se základy fungování ZOS, specifikou komunikace operátora s volajícím, a nakonec rozebírá psychické jevy, které mohou působit na operátora. Praktická část má za cíl zjistit názory operátorů na psychickou zátěž jejich profese. Zjišťuje, které faktory operátoři vnímají jako stresující, jak hodnotí svoji přípravu pro výkon své profese, jaké metody využívají pro zachování duševní pohody a zdali povaha jejich profese může vést k syndromu vyhoření.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the problematics of psychological stress of the operators of Emergency dispatch center (EDC). While EDC is an essential part of the Medical Emergency Service (EMS), the care of the mental health of the operators does not require as much attention as EMS crews in the field. Operators are also exposed to stressful situations without having to confront the atmosphere at the scene. Working on EDC is specific and requires high psychological resistance. The theoretical part is divided into three parts. It deals with the basics of the operation of the EDC, the specifics of the communication between the operator and the caller and eventually analyzes psychic events that can affect the operator. The aim of the practical part is finding opinions about the psychological stress of their profession. It identifies factors that operators perceive as stressful, assessing the preparation for their profession, what methods they use to maintain mental wellbeing, and whether the nature of their occupation can lead to burnout syndrome.
