Impact of rehabilitation and occupation therapy on the functional independence in patients with stroke and diabetes mellitus

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the impact of physiotherapy and occupational therapy on the functional independence in patients with stroke and diabetes mellitus. The condition and functional independence of patients was evaluated with the help of the Functional Independence Measure test (FIM test). The data for the study were collected in the Rehabilitation Department in Nový Lískovec (St. Anna Faculty Hospital before). In the range of all the patients from the research, the results proved a statistically significant improvement of the overall FIM score, while there was no significant statistical difference between the patients with or without occupational therapy. DM complications negatively influenced the rate of functional independence. The fact that the occupational therapy had a positive influence on the FIM results by patients with DM complications has been statistically proved. The age of patients had no statistically significant effect on the rate of functional independence, only in the group of patients who had DM complications and had received occupational therapy was found a statistically significant negative correlation between the age and the final FIM score. The length of hospitalization had also no significant influence on the final FIM score.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá hodnotením vplyvu rehabilitácie a ergoterapie na funkčnú nezávislosť pacientov po cievnej mozgovej príhode s diabetes mellitus. Stav pacientov a miera funkčnej nezávislosti bola u týchto pacientov hodnotená pomocou testu funkčnej nezávislosti (FIM testu). Štúdia prebiehala na Doliečovacom s rehabilitačnom oddelení v Novom Lískovci v Brne, predtým detašovanom pracovisku Fakultnej nemocnice u sv. Anny v Brne. Výsledky preukázali štatisticky významné zlepšenie celkového FIM skóre v súboru všetkých pacientov, bez štatisticky významného rozdielu medzi pacientmi s ergoterapiou a bez ergoterapie. Komplikácie DM negatívne ovplyvnili mieru funkčnej nezávislosti, štatisticky významne sa preukázalo, že ergoterapia mala pozitívny vplyv na výsledky FIM u pacientov s DM a komplikáciami. Vek pacientov nemal štatisticky významný vplyv na mieru funkčnej nezávislosti, len v skupine pacientov, ktorí mali DM s komplikáciami a absolvovali ergoterapiu, bola štatisticky významná negatívna korelácia veku a výsledného FIM skóre. Takisto ani dĺžka hospitalizácie neovplyvnila štatisticky významne zlepšenie FIM skóre.
