Easter Caroling With a Maypole in the District of Přerov

Abstract:

Výroční obyčejový cyklus je mnohovrstevným kulturním jevem, jehož kořeny sahají hluboko do minulosti. Jakou úlohu hrály výroční obyčeje v životě člověka v minulosti, a jaké místo mají v dnešním životě současníků? Jsou tradice na venkově již upadajícím přežitkem, anebo fenoménem, který nejen nezaniká, ale hraje významnou roli v životě lidí na venkově? Tento text předkládá obraz jednoho prvku výročního obyčejového cyklu – dívčích koledních obchůzek s májkem. Materiál je výsledkem terénního výzkumu, který byl realizován v období mezi lety 2010 až 2015 ve čtyřech lokalitách na Přerovsku. Cílem této práce je zaznamenání současné podoby koledních obchůzek ve čtyřech obcích na Přerovsku – Veselíčku, Bezuchově, Hradčanech a v Pavlovicích u Přerova. Předkládaná práce vychází z terénního výzkumu, v rámci něhož byl zdokumentován proces ruční výroby májků a následně pak samotný průvodu dívek s májky. Zajímalo nás, jaká je současná organizační struktura obchůzek, jaká je věková skladba samotných aktérek, jaké jsou jejich motivace a co vede děvčata k obchůzkám s májky. V druhá část práce je zaměřena na sociální kontext obchůzek v současném životě nositelů a venkovské komunity – co přináší tento fenomén obyvatelům obcí a jak je tento jev mezi obyvateli chápán. Sekundárně je text doplněn o informace, z jakých materiálů byly májky v minulosti zhotovovány, jaká byla dostupnost některých komponentů a jak se jejich zhotovování lišilo od dnešní výroby. Současně byla v práci aplikována etnokartografická metoda. Text obsahuje mapu, v níž jsou vyznačeny všechny lokality v okrese Přerov, kde jsou kolední obchůzky v současné době aktuální s rozlišením, zda se konají na Smrtnou (Judica) nebo Květnou neděli (Palmare).

Abstract:

The annual traditional cycle is a multi-layer cultural phenomenon, of which roots reach deep in the past. What role did the annual traditions have in the life of a man in the past, and what role do they have in current life of contemporaries? Are the rural traditions a declining anachronism or a phenomenon, which does not merely vanish, but also plays an important part in the life of the people in the country? This text presents the image of the element of annual traditional cycle – girls‘ Easter carol walks with a maypole-twig. The material is a result of a field research, which was carried out in four localities in Přerov District between 2010 and 2015. Main target of this thesis is to record the contemporary form of these Easter carol walks in four municipalities of Přerov District – Veselíčko, Bezuchov, Hradčany and Pavlovice u Přerova. This thesis proceeds from the field research, where handcraft process of the maypole-twig and the subsequent parade of girls with maypole-twigs were documented. The author was interested in nowadays-organizational structure of the girls‘ walks and what was the age bracket of participants, and what were their motivations and motives to take part in the carol walks. The second part of the thesis focuses on the social context of the walks in the contemporary life of bearers and the rural community – what does this phenomenon bring to the villages‘ inhabitants and how is this phenomenon perceived by them. Secondarily, the text contains the information about the materials used for the maypole-twigs crafting in the past, and what was the availability of some components and how did their manufacturing differ from the contemporary. Concurrently, the author applied the ethno-cartographic method. This thesis contains a map with each locality on Přerov District, where the girls‘ Easter carol walks are held, depending on the time they take place – Judica or Palmare.
