Theory of Fictional Worlds in Literature

Abstract:

První část této diplomové práce se věnuje představení tradiční teorie fikčních světů s ohledem především na práce Lubomíra Doležela, Ruth Ronenové, Umberta Eca a Vlastimila Zusky. Druhá část si pak klade za cíl zodpovědět otázku, zda a jakým způsobem byl tento tradiční koncept pozměněn v období postmoderny a to zejména v souvislosti s novými technologiemi a médii. Pomocí příkladových publikací, titulů a souvisejících teorií je demonstrováno, že na tuto otázku lze odpovídat kladně. Charakter těchto změn v koncepci teorie fikčních světů je následně spojován především se stále se zvyšujícím vlivem nových médií a technologí a týká se zejména posílené interaktivity mezi čtenářem/uživatelem a fikčním světem, nových možností tvorby a publikace fikčních světů pomocí nových médií a technologií, vysoké míry multimediality jednotlivých fikčních světů a také možnosti digitální tvorby interaktivních fikčních světů, jež nemusejí být založeny na tradiční literárně-textové formě.

Abstract:

The first section of this diploma thesis introduces the traditional approach to the theory of fictional worlds with the main focus on the works of Lubomír Doležel, Ruth Ronen, Umberto Eco and Vlastimil Zuska. The second section then aims to answer the question, whether and how was this traditional concept modified in the postmodern era and with the realition with new technologies and media. Through examples of publications, titles and related theories is demonstrated, that this question can be answered positively. These changes of the concept of the fictional worlds theory are then mostly attributed to the phenomenon of the perpetually increasing influence of new media and technologies and are individually identified as an increased interaction between the reader and fictional world, new possibilities of creation and publishing of fictional world achieved by new technologies and media, high potential of fictional worlds existing on multiple media platforms at once and also as the possibility to create interactive digital fictional worlds, which must not be based on the traditional form of literary text.
