Transformation of identity and elevation of consciousness through masks

Abstract:

V první části je definován a generalizován koncept masek jako takový. Zde se zabývám zkoumáním změny identity prostřednictvím masek. Následně v druhé části představuji různé užití a pojetí masek napříč kulturami (masky divadelní jsou zmíněny jen okrajově). V poslední části jsou představeni současní umělci, kteří pracují s médiem masek, popřípadě, kteří skrze ně, zkoumají identitu. Zaměřuji se hlavně na posuny identity jedince skrze masku, její překrytí, či úplné skrytí a to provází celou mou práci.

Abstract:

Firstly I describe and generalize the concept of masks and examine the changes of identity through masks. In the second part is presented various uses and concepts of masks across cultures (the theatrical masks are mentioned only marginally). In the last part, are presented contemporary artists who work with the medium of masks or who use them for exploring the identity. I focus mainly on changes of the identity, its overlap or complete hiding through the mask. This topic is present in all my work.
