Methods for IT investment evaluation and decision making

Abstract:

V Diplomové práci jsou shrnuty základní metodiky a postupy pro ocenění a hodnocení IT investic. Cílem práce je především prokázat vazbu mezi strategií a architekturou podniku na ocenění nákladů a zejména přínosů IT investice. Aby tohoto cíle bylo možné dosáhnout, jsou v práci vysvětleny možnosti, jak přistupovat k ocenění vazby přínosů IT investice na strategii a architekturu podniku pomocí tzv. Enterprise Architecture a začlenění investice do celkového portfolia investic podniku pomocí tzv. IT Project Portfolio Management. Následně je provedena rešerše, především zahraniční literatury, související s oceněním jednotlivých nákladů a přínosů IT investice a výpočtem její rentability. Tyto výpočty jsou obtížné vzhledem ke stanovení tzv. kvalitativních (měkkých) přínosů IT investice, které bývají jedním z hlavních požadavků IT systémů. Příkladem takových přínosů je např. spokojenost zákazníka, zefektivnění určitého business procesu nebo spokojenost zaměstnanců. Z důvodu obtížnosti kvantifikace těchto kritérií jsou analyzovány i metody vhodné pro výpočet rentability kvalitativních kriterií jako např. Cost/Benefit analýza. V práci jsou vysvětleny i metody vhodné pro hodnocení a rozhodnutí o IT investici, především tzv. vícekriteriální metody hodnocení variant. V závěru práce jsou zmíněny i metody pro odhad rizika investic, které jsou vzhledem k omezenému rozsahu práce analyzovány pouze okrajově. Klíčové metody pro ocenění a hodnocení IT investic jsou aplikovány na modelovém příkladě tak, aby byly prokázány cíle práce. Hlavním přínosem práce je zkoumání vazby strategie a podnikové architektury na ocenění IT investice. Celá diplomová práce může následně sloužit jako podklad pro vývoj frameworku pro ocenění a hodnocení IT investic.

Abstract:

The aim of the final thesis Methods for IT investment evaluation and decision making is to verify relationship between strategy of the company its Enterprise Architecture and IT investments evaluation. To achieve the aim of the thesis is necessary to define the term of Enterprise Architecture and its relationship with IT Project Portfolio Management. The literature retrieval which follows after is focused on calculation of IT investment profitability and return. The calculation is very difficult due to intangible benefits which are one of the common goals of IT investments. The customer satisfaction, improve of the current business process or employees satisfaction are one of the examples of the intangible benefits. Cost/Benefit analysis is one of the methods depicted for calculation of the intangible benefits. Methods for decision support as Analytic Hierarchy Process are highlighted as the significant instrument. The risk analysis and simulation of the risk in IT investments decision making are also mentioned but according to the scope of thesis just very briefly. Major methods are used on the model example of the evaluation and decision making process to demonstrate the whole theoretical part of the thesis. The biggest added value of the final thesis is the deep analysis of the relationship between strategy of the company its Enterprise Architecture and IT investment evaluation. Entire final thesis should be used as the fundament for IT investment evaluation and decision making framework.
