The Role of Institutional Care for the Elderly in Prevention of Social Exclusion

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá institucionální péčí pro seniory v kontextu prevence sociální exkluze a aktivitami v instituci, jako nástrojem prevence sociální exkluze, z pohledu seniorů. Cílem práce je posoudit roli institucionální péče pro seniory v prevenci sociální exkluze i význam aktivit nabízených institucí v životě seniorů. Práce přibližuje pojmy sociální exkluze, volný čas, stáří a aktivní stárnutí. Dále přibližuje institucionální péči pro seniory a nabídku aktivit v tomto zařízení. Výzkumná část klade důraz na subjektivní názor uživatelů institucionální péče na aktivity jako náplň volného času pro seniory v instituci a na změny v životě seniorů, které přechodem do instituce nastaly. Pomocí ne-standardizovaného dotazníku a rozhovorů analyzuje preferenci i přínos aktivit z oblasti kulturní, sociální a pohybové a subjektivní pohled seniorů na život v instituci. Výsledky mohou přiblížit problém laické veřejnosti a pomoci profesionálům v inovaci stávajících podmínek.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with institutional care for the elderly in the context of prevention of social exclusion. It also considers activities in the institution as a means of preventing social exclusion, as viewed by the seniors. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the role of institutional care for the elderly in the prevention of social exclusion as well as the impor-tance of activities offered by the institution in the life of seniors. The paper approaches the concepts of social exclusion, leisure time, old age and active aging. It also focuses on insti-tutional care for the elderly and the offer of activities in this facility. The research part emphasizes the subjective view of the institutional care users on activities as a leisure time for the elderly in the institution and on the changes in the life of the elderly, which occurred during the transition to the institution. Using a non-standardized questionnaire and inter-views, the thesis analyses the preference and contribution of cultural, social, and physical events and evaluates subjective views of seniors to living in the institution. The results can bring the problem to the general public and help professionals improve existing conditions.
