Nicknames in the World of Warcraft computer game

Abstract:

Předmětem této bakalářské práce jsou přezdívky a v malé míře hypokoristika používaná v počítačové hře World of Warcraft. Vychází z materiálu nashromážděného z internetových fór, která jsou na hru orientována. Práce se snaží o analýzu a klasifikaci jednotlivých přezdívek podle motivace a o celkové nastínění fungování přezdívek na internetu. Je rozdělena na část teoretickou, která kromě popisu hry poskytuje vhled do problematiky přezdívek v rámci onomastiky, a na část praktickou, ve které se věnujeme rozboru a klasifikaci přezdívek. Okrajově je pojednáno i o hypokoristických podobách přezdívek a o jazyce používaném v této hře, zejména o jeho lexikální rovině.

Abstract:

Nicknames and also hypocorism in minor extent are subjects of this bachelor thesis. It stems from the information obtained from the internet forum oriented on this computer game. This work tries to analyze and to classify individual nicknames according to their motivation and it overall outlines how nicknames work on the internet. It is divided on a theoretical part which besides the game description provides insight into the nicknames problematics relating to onomastics and on a practical part where we focus on the nicknames analysis and classification. This thesis also mentions hypocoristic forms of nicknames and the language used in this game, especially its lexicology.
