Subculture of dog handlers of fighting breeds at the dog training center

Abstract:

Diplomová práce popisuje mezidruhový vztah psa a člověka z antropologické perspektivy, především se zaměří na zájmovou skupinu psovodů, kteří aktivně cvičí "bojová plemena" na Náchodsku. Vychází z vlastního terénního výzkumu, který byl uskutečněn na vybraném kynologickém cvičišti. Studentka bude zkoumat svět psovodů a každodenní praktiky sociálních aktérů, kteří tento životní styl vyznávají. Terénní výzkum byl prováděn na základě zúčastněného pozorování a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Cílem této práce bude analyzovat vztah psovoda a psa z pohledu vědecké disciplíny Human-Animal Studies, teorie jednání (Bourdieu), antropologických poznatků o subkulturách.

Abstract:

This thesis will deal with the interspecies relationship between a human and a dog from an anthropological perspective. It will mainly focuse on the group of dog handlers who actively participate on training of "fighting breeds" in Náchodsko region. It is based on author's own field research which had taken dog training area. The author will study the world of a dog handlers and their everyday actions as social actors who profess a dog handler lifestyle. The chosen research methods for this thesis will be participant observation. The field research was processed on the basis of involved observation and semi-structured interviews. The aim of this thesis will be to analyze the relationship between a dog handler and a dog in selected dog training center from several perspectives: from point of view of Human-Animal Studies scientific discipline, from point of view of the Theory of Action (Bourdieu) and from point of view of an anthropological knowledge on subcultures.
