Managerial competencies necessary for hotel management

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se v teoretické části zaměřuje na základě studia literatury na charakteristiku složek kompetencí manažera. Práce zjišťuje skutečnosti ovlivňující řízení hotelu. Praktická část zkoumá úlohu manažera a kompetence v hotelové praxi. Práce zahrnuje metodu průzkumu, který byl proveden formou anonymního dotazníku a zjišťuje uvedené problematiky mezi manažery v oboru hotelnictví. Cílem mé bakalářské práce je identifikovat nezbytné kompetence manažerů v oboru hotelnictví. V této práci využiji komparaci, dotazník a hypotézy. Získaná data interpretuji a na základě vyhodnocení výsledků průzkumu formuluji závěry a navrhnu doporučení pro formální a neformální vzdělávání manažerů. Z dotazníkové části vyplynulo, že největší důležitost přikládají kompetencím interpersonálním, a že pro kvalitně odváděnou práci manažerů hraje významný vliv neustálé vzdělávání a rozšiřování dovedností. K důležitým manažerským kompetencím patří budování vztahů, naslouchání a empatie, vyjednávání, strategické plánování, odborná znalost a praxe v řízení hotelu, vedení zaměstnanců, krizová komunikace, výběr zaměstnanců, řešení problémů a rozhodování aj. V závěru práce jsou poté podávány návrhy, které mají pomoci rozvíjet a prohlubovat manažerské kompetence.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused in the theoretical part on the basis of the study of the literature on the characteristics of the components of the manage’rs competencies. The bachelor thesis examines the facts influencing the management of the hotel. The practical part examines the role of manager and his competence in hotel practice. The bachelor thesis includes a survey method, which was conducted by an anonymous questionnaire and identifies the above issues among managers in the hotel industry. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to identify the necessary competencies of managers in the hotel industry. I interpreted the data I obtained and, based on the results of the survey, formulated conclusions and suggested recommendations for formal and informal training of managers. The questionnaire revealed that interpersonal competencies are of the greatest importance and that continuous training and skills development play a significant role in the quality of the work done by managers. Important managerial competencies include relationship building, listening and empathy, negotiation, strategic planning, professional knowledge and practice in hotel management, employee management, crisis communication, employee selection, problem solving and decision making. At the end of the bachelor’s thesis there are presented suggestions to help develop and deepen managerial competencies.
