The company investment in collective investment funds: active versus passive management

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na porovnání investice podniku do fondů kolektivního investování s aktivní a pasivní správou na základě výnosnosti a rizikovosti. Teoretická část se věnuje problematice kolektivního investování, členění fondů a srovnání výhod a nevýhod aktivní či pasivní strategie podílových fondů. V praktické části jsou porovnávány akciové podílové fondy s aktivní a pasivní správou, které jsou rozděleny dle měny, ve které investují. Porovnání probíhá na základě různě dlouhých časových horizontů pomocí výpočtů výnosnosti a rizikovosti jednotlivých fondů. Cílem práce je stanovit doporučení, do kterého fondu je výhodnější investovat finanční prostředky. Na základě výsledků praktické části lze doporučit využití aktivních fondů na českém a evropském trhu, na americkém trhu je naopak výhodnější investovat do pasivního fondu. Na klesajících trzích prokázaly lepší výsledky fondy pasivní, naopak aktivní fondy si vedly lépe na trzích rostoucích.

Abstract:

The following bachelor’s thesis is focused on the comparison between a company’s active and passive management of investment into collective investment funds based on profitability and riskiness. The theoretical part describes the subject of collective investment and classification of funds, moreover, the advantages and disadvantages of an active or passive strategy of mutual funds are compared. The practical part covers the comparison of equity mutual funds having active or passive management, which are divided according to the currency in which they invest. The comparison is based on different lengths of time scales while using profitability and risk calculations of individual funds. The aim of the thesis is to assess a recommendation, to which fund it is better to invest financial resources. Appertaining to the results of the practical part, it can be recommended to use active funds on the Czech and European market, whereas on the US market it is more advantageous to invest in a passive fund. The passive funds have shown better results in decreasing market, on the other hand, the active funds did better on the growing market.
