As if everything has a mysterious meaning. On structure in W. G. Sebald's The Emigrants.

Abstract:

The present thesis focuses on the semantic structure of the narrative Die Ausgewanderten (1992) from the german writing author W. G. Sebald. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the form and the function of the photographs in the narrative, to describe the narrative strategy employed by the narrator to convey the memories and to study the position of topics such as home, insanity and death in the semantic structure. Further the function of the intra-, inter- and extratextuall references will be investigated.

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na sémantickou výstavbu v prozaickém textu Die Ausgewanderten (1992) německy píšícího autora W. G. Sebalda. Analyzujeme formu i funkci fotografií vkomponovaných do textu, zabýváme se způsobem, jímž vypravěč konstruuje text založený na procesu vzpomínání, zkoumáme zapojení témat domova a jeho ztráty, šílenství a smrti do významové struktury díla, a to se zřetelem k různě v textu naznačované spojitosti s židovstvím a holocaustem. Dále zjišťujeme, jakou funkci v rámci sémantické výstavby plní jednak nesčetné odkazy v rámci textu samotného, dále odkazy zapojující texty jiné a konečně i ty, jež vtahují do tvorby významu i mimojazykovou skutečnost. Závěrem se pokoušíme ukázat, že cílem vypravěče se nezdá být jen „povrchní“ vzpomínání na oběti holocaustu, nýbrž jakési téměř mystické vnitřní prožití jejich osudů.
