The Cyprus issue and its impact on Turkey's accession to EU

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem Kyperské otázky na vstup Turecka do Evropské unie. Je členěna do několika kapitol, ve kterých chronologicky popisuje jednání mezi Tureckem a Evropskou unií ohledně vstupu Turecka do EU. Přičemž se zaměřuje právě na ta jednání, při kterých se nějak projevila problematika rozděleného Kypru. Tato práce se záměrně zabývá především jednáními od roku 1987, kdy Turecko podalo oficiální žádost o vstup do EHS, do současnosti, jelikož jim připisuje zásadní důležitost. Cílem této práce je na základě analýzy jednání mezi Tureckem a Evropskou unií vyvodit, jaký vliv a důsledky má Kyperská otázka na vstup Turecka do EU.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis concerns the influence of the Cyprus issue on the Turkey?s accession into the EU. It is divided into several chapters in which the negotiations among Turkey and the EU concerning Turkey?s accession into the EU are described in chronological sequence. It is oriented especially on those negotiations which include the problems of divided Cyprus. This bachelor thesis follows the negotiations from 1987 when Turkey demanded the accession into the EEC until the present period because particularly those negotiations are the most important. The aim of the thesis is to find the influence of the Cyprus issue on the Turkey?s accession into the EU based on analysis of negotiations among Turkey and the EU.
