Relationship self-harming behaviour to depressivity and other factors among children of secondary school age

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo ověřit a dále prozkoumat vztahy mezi sebepoškozováním, depresivitou a dalšími faktory u dětí staršího školního věku. Práce byla realizována v rámci širšího výzkumu z grantové podpory: MUNI/A/0790/2011 "Ověření psychometrických vlastností diagnostických nástrojů pro screening výskytu a forem sebepoškozování u dětí staršího školního věku". Práce je kvantitativním výzkumným šetřením, které využívá kombinace čtyř dotazníkových metod: Škály uvědomování si vlastních schopností pro děti (PCSC), Self-Harm Behavior Questionnaire (SHBQ), Self-Harm Inventory (SHI) a Sebeposuzovací škály depresivity pro děti (CDI). Výzkumný soubor pro tuto diplomovou práci tvořilo 182 respondentů ve věku 11 až 16 let. Věkové rozpětí bylo zvoleno na základě nejčastěji udávaného věku zvýšeného výskytu sebepoškozujícího chování u dospívajících. Tento předpoklad se potvrdil i v našem výzkumu, kde 41,8% ze sledovaných dětí uvedlo alespoň jednu epizodu sebepoškození v osobní historii. V práci jsme potvrdili vztah mezi sebepoškozováním a celkovou mírou depresivity. Zjistili jsme další vztahy mezi skóry jednotlivých subškál CDI a konkrétních způsobu sebepoškození. Poznatky získané výzkumem mohou posloužit jednak v oblasti prevence, ale i v oblasti dalšího výzkumu.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to verify and further explore the relationship between self-harm, depression and other factors among school children. The study was realize as a part of grant supported wider research: MUNI/A/0790/2011 "Verifying the psychometric properties of diagnostic tools for screening the incidence and forms of self-harm among school children." The work is a quantitative research, which uses a combination of four questionnaire methods: Perceived Competence Scale for Children (PCSC), Self-Harm Behavior Questionnaire (SHBQ), Self-Harm Inventory (SHI) and Children's Depression Inventory (CDI). The study sample consisted of 182 respondents at the age of 11-16 years. The age range was chosen on the ground of the most defined age of increased occurrence self-harming behavior. The assumption was confirmed. 41.8% of respondents report at least one self-harming episode within their life. In the study we confirmed the relationship between self-harm and depressivity. We found also other relations between scores of the individual subscales CDI and specific ways of selfharming. Research findings may help in the field of prevention and also in further research.
